Storm damage included 500 incidents in Scotland alone
Network Rail engineers and contractors have been continuing to work around the clock to repair the railway after the destructive winds and rain of Storm Eowyn wreaked havoc on Friday. ScotRail said there had been about 500 incidents involving obstructions or damage north of the border alone, including 120 fallen trees.
The destructive effects of Storm Eowyn mean that no trains are expected to run in Scotland before midday on Saturday. ScotRail said the storm had caused ‘significant damage to infrastructure throughout the country’. Meanwhile, damage to overhead lines caused by the high winds has disrupted tram services in Manchester.
No trains are running in Scotland today, because Storm ?owyn is threatening to bring gusts of up to 160km/h. The Met Office has issued an upgraded red warning for much of Scotland which includes the central belt as well as the Borders, Fife, Tayside and the south west towards Stranraer and Carlisle. Caledonian Sleeper services have also been cancelled, and there is more disruption in much of England and Wales.
