22 August: news in brief
RMT calls strikes at Merseyrail, Wabtec
NEW strikes have been called on Merseyrail by the RMT, after talks over train despatch failed to find a solution. Members of the union will walk out for 24 hours on Saturday, and on 3, 5 and 30 September, and on 2 and 4 October. The RMT has also announced industrial action at the Wabtec plant in Doncaster, in a dispute over pay. RMT members at the works are set to strike from 4 to 11 September, and again from 16 to 23 September. An overtime ban has been called between 11 and 16 September, and indefinitely from 23 September. Wabtec is refurbishing HSTs for service with ScotRail, but the programme of upgrades is already seriously behind schedule.
