THE former head of property at HS2 is calling on the government to offer ‘compensation, vindication and a formal apology’ to whistleblowers who lost their jobs after warning that estimates of costs were inadequate, according to The Times. Doug Thornton, 52, said he was forced out of his job in December 2015 after warning that Phase 1 between London and the Birmingham would cost at least £4.7 billion for property-related matters, which was about £2 billion more than forecast in the official plans. Mr Thornton has written to HS2 minister Andrew Stephenson, saying that the sacking has ‘ruined his life’, and that other former employees who broke their silence are in a similar position.
