The successful bidder will be responsible for additional stages of design as well as manufacture, supply, installation, testing and commissioning of the systems. This will be a ‘single stage’ procurement, involving two contracts covering Phase 1 from London to the West Midlands and Phase 2a onwards to Crewe. A shortlist is expected to be announced in the summer and the contract awarded in 2021. The Parliamentary Bill authorising Phase 2a is currently being debated in the House of Lords, and Royal Assent is expected later this year.
