Main contractor takes charge at HS2 Old Oak Common
Construction of the interchange for HS2 at Old Oak Common has moved to its next stage. HS2 Ltd has revealed that the joint venture of Balfour Beatty/VINCI and SYSTRA/Mott MacDonald took over the site of Old Oak Common as Station Construction Partner on 27 July. The handover has followed more than two years of work at the site led by Enabling Works Contractor Costain Skanska JV, which cleared the site. This work included the demolition of the existing GWR depot.
Early work by the Station Construction Partner contractors will include the construction of piling for the foundations of the new station, which will have 14 platforms.
HS2 Stations Director Matthew Botelle said: ‘The successful handover of the Old Oak Common site to BBVS is a further sign of how the HS2 project is picking up pace. The site team at Old Oak Common will be delivering one of the most exciting stations in the HS2 network.’
