New chairman named for HS2
DOUGLAS OAKERVEE has been appointed as the new non-executive chairman of HS2 Ltd, the independent company set up by the Government to build a High Speed Rail network between London, Birmingham, Leeds and Manchester. He will start in April, replacing Brian Briscoe.
Mr Oakervee's previous experience includes chairing Crossrail Ltd between 2005 and 2009, while Parliamentary powers were being obtained for the project.
His primary responsibilities at HS2 will include drawing up the Board's strategy, making sure that the transport secretary's guidance is followed and promoting the scheme to the public.
The transport secretary Justine Greening said she was 'delighted' at the appointment, although she also paid tribute to the contribution made by the outgoing chairman, Brian Briscoe.
