TWO children’s charities in Sheffield are better off to the tune of £2,000 after being nominated by rail freight staff for funds from a scheme run by the Freightliner Group.
In a joint presentation to Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice and the Sincere Support charity, Freightliner Heavy Haul driver team leader Colin Easton and driver Martyn Edwards handed over bumper cheques.
Martyn nominated Bluebell Wood following the loss of his 14-year-old nephew, while Colin and wife Diane chose Sincere Support after seeing the charity give unfailing emotional and financial help to families of sick children and those suffering bereavement.
It was the second presentation in the company’s annual employee-nominated charity donation scheme.
And in a third charity presentation nominated by development manager Julia Glebocki, £1,000 was donated to the Theodora Children’s Trust which works alongside hospitals and special residential centres to provide entertainment for sick children.
The presentation took place at the National Centre for Young People with Epilepsy in Lingfield, Surrey.
Under the charity scheme, company employees were invited to nominate causes they felt worthy of a £1,000 donation, with a further £8,000 allocated by Freightliner to be donated to eight other charities next year.
Freightliner chief executive Eddie Fitzsimmons said: “Our scheme enables our people to become involved in our responsibility to the community, and recognises the dedication and work of these organisations.”
